Meet the Team

Who we are

Following the launch of our new website, we’d like to introduce you to the team behind Chesil and Fleet Nature Reserve. Although the Reserve team is small, they work across the entire stretch of the Reserve, from Abbotsbury to Portland, helping care for this unique and nationally important landscape.

The team consists of Warden Charlie Wheeler, who also manages the team at Abbotsbury Swannery and has worked at both the Swannery and the Reserve since 2006. He is supported by Assistant Warden Angela Thomas, who has been involved with the Reserve since 1998, first as a volunteer and later a member of staff. Together, they have built up a wealth of knowledge of the Reserve, its wildlife and its history.

Charlie and Angela work together to manage the Reserve and protect its wildlife and habitats. Their responsibilities include practical conservation work, wildlife monitoring, site maintenance and engaging with visitors. Through their work, they help ensure that the Reserve remains a thriving haven for wildlife and a special place for people to enjoy both now and in the future.
