The Great Dorset Beach Clean, organised by ‘Litter Free Coast and Sea’, is a huge project to clean up our coastlines beaches. Over the weekend of the 22nd & 23rd of April 22 beach cleans were organised along the Devon and Dorset coast.

The local organisation running the clean at Abbotsbury was Dorset Countryside Volunteers (DCV) who did an incredible job marshalling the pick and ensuring everyone involved was safe and got the most out of the pick. A total of 30 volunteers made up of 26 adults and 4 children helped out at throughout the day, which works out at just over 23 work days. Of the 30 volunteers, 19 were from Dorset Countryside Volunteers (DCV), which was a great turn out for their organisation. .
There was a total collection of 26 black bags for landfill, 4 clear bags of plastic bottles and 2 clear bags of tin cans.
The Dorset Countryside Volunteers good friends of the reserve and had done lots of work for us in the past. They are an independent group of volunteers who undertake work associated with the countryside and conservation, on behalf of charities and other organisations involved in conservation or the improvement of public amenities anywhere within the county.
