It’s that time of year where Spring has sprung and all of our fauna and flora are setting up for a busy summer ahead, in particular…our bird life! The majority of our resident breeding birds should have set up their territories by now and started laying their eggs and for some, the first of several clutches. Our resident colony of Mute Swans located at the western end of the Reserve at Abbotsbury are well in to the nesting season and as of today, 72 nests have been established with a few more dozen still expected. With the list of breeding birds on the reserve being far too long to waffle on now, below are just a few images of this years nests with eggs…just in time for Easter. (Please note: none of these birds were disturbed to obtain these pictures, remote cameras were used). It wont be long before the hatching season begins!
