A larval web of the Social Pear Sawfly is commonly seen on both Pear and Apple trees, Medlars and Hawthorns. This web was pictured on the latter, found at Abbotsbury. There are several types of Sawflies, and most are named after the type of plant that they feed on. The caterpillars are bright orange with black heads and are seen here stripping the leaves within their web structure.
